Simple ways to DIY design your baby's nursery

What better time to decorate your home than when you are welcoming a new family member. It’s going to get really busy when your baby comes home, so in the lead up take the time to get organised and be creative.

Once you have all the key furniture pieces in place and the room is ready, its time to decorate, here are two super simple ideas that you can do yourself at home, best of all they are quick and easy!

Baby room wall display

Print out your favourite photos, the baby’s name and anything else cute and cheerful. For kids its all about colour and it’s about personalising the space. Let’s be honest this is just as much for you as it is for your baby — and makes for an awesome Instagram shot too!

DIY nursery decoration - images pegged on string in baby room

To create an interesting and easy to update display all you need is some string, clothes pegs (our colourful ones came from officeworks) and some drawing pins.

This is how you do it:

  1. Place pins on either side of crib measure out your string allowing a little extra so its not completely straight, secure string to pins — we made two rows.
  2. Print out your photos with your pixma printer — we printed photos of the family with the baby, the baby’s name, some quotes and a few cool images. I went to Taranga zoo to snap this photo of a giraffe, I was lucky to capture it with just blue sky behind — who doesn’t love a giraffe, right! It’s a great idea for a nursery for a boy or a girl.
  3. Stand back and add subtract until you think it looks just right!
  4. Add pictures over time and keep the display in constant evolution.

Night light Print

A nightlight is a great addition for the nursery, practical but decorative as well.

With a little creative thinking you can design a personalised night light for your new baby. It will look super cool and will be a talking point.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Print out a sweet or personalised image (we printed ours A3 on photo paper which was perfect for the light box we bought).
  2. Attach the light box to the wall (ours was battery powered) they are lightweight so one hook will do.
  3. Since our light box was A3 our photo sits perfectly over the light box we held ours in place with tape top and bottom.
  4. Switch on and shine bright! Welcome to the world a brand new baby!
