ⓘ Will it work on my Camera

The easiest way to check lens compatibility with your camera is to search for the indicators on your lens mount, located on the front of your camera:

Red dot indicates your camera accepts EF lenses

Red dot and white square indicates your camera will accept EF-S lenses as well

White circle indicates your camera will only accept EF-M lenses

ⓘ L Series, STM, USM... What does it all mean?

L SERIES EF LENSES are unrivalled for optical performance in challenging light conditions and environments.

STM This shoots great photos and outstanding videos. Named after a Stepping Motor, it lets the lens focus smoothly and quietly, two great characteristics to have when capturing video.

USM (Ultrasonic Motor) (Ultrasonic Motor) is the most widely used AF motor type in the Canon EF range. USMs work by converting ultrasonic vibration energy into rotational force to move the lens at high speed, making it the fastest focusing motor in our range. Also, it still allows you to manually fine-tune focus without having to switch off auto-focus.

FOCAL LENGTH refers to the field of view of a lens. 50mm is considered to be similar to what we see with our own eyes. Smaller focal lengths than this are wider (wide angle) than what we can see with our eyes. And larger lengths will be more zoomed in than what we can see (this is called telephoto).

APERTURE controls the amount of blur or sharpness around your subject. Similar to a human eye, the larger the lens can open, the more light it lets in. This also reduces the area that is in focus (depth of field) allowing for isolated portraits with blurred backgrounds.
