Sydney, Australia, 1 November 2017 – Canon today announced the launch of two new portable 4K broadcast lenses that support use with 4K broadcast cameras employing 2/3-inch sensors: the
CJ45ex9.7B, which achieves the highest zoom ratio1 in its class, and the
CJ45ex13.6B, which realizes the highest zoom ratio and longest focal length in its class1.
The new CJ45ex9.7B and CJ45ex13.6B, are portable zoom lenses that feature high optical performance supporting use with 4K broadcast cameras and achieve a 45x zoom ratio and focal length ranges of 9.7 mm to 437 mm and 13.6 mm to 612 mm, respectively. Both lenses are ideal for broadcasting such events as sports and concerts, where there are frequent opportunities for telephoto shooting, with the CJ45ex13.6B also being well-suited to mid-size broadcast vans and surveillance applications.
Both the CJ45ex9.7B and CJ45ex13.6B realize high zoom ratios and long focal length ranges, making them ideal for wide-angle and super-telephoto shooting in a variety of scenarios. What’s more, both lenses employ a built-in 2x extender that shifts the entire focal length range towards the telephoto end, increasing the maximum focal length at the telephoto end of the CJ45ex9.7B to 874 mm and the CJ45ex13.6B to 1224 mm for even further telephoto shooting.
The CJ45ex9.7B and CJ45ex13.6B employ proprietary optical design technology that features optimal lens positioning and makes heavy use of such materials as fluorite and Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass to achieve high-quality 4K optical performance from the center of the imaging field to the periphery across the entire zoom range, making high-resolution 4K shooting possible for a variety of scenes—from close-up shots of subjects to such wide shots as panoramic views of entire venues.
In addition to high zoom ratios, long focal lengths and high optical performance supporting use with 4K broadcast cameras, by achieving compact and lightweight designs2 comparable to HD super telephoto lenses, the CJ45ex9.7B and CJ45ex13.6B maintain the maneuverability demanded for broadcasting.
Availability
The CJ45ex9.7B will be available from April 2018 and the CJ45ex13.6B from May 2018. Prices will be set at dealer discretion.
