A responsible approach to design and manufacturing to lessen the impact on our natural environment
At Canon, we’re guided by kyosei, our long-standing corporate philosophy. Kyosei commits us to creating a world in which everyone, regardless of culture, customs, language, or race, lives and works harmoniously well into the future. Sustainability is a big part of that.

Real world perspective

Ben Keach, Product Manager for Canon Oceania talks about how we’re developing technologies and designing components that use fewer materials, but last longer, without sacrificing reliability or performance.

  • CO2 emissions

    Cutting CO² emissions

The Canon Group is aiming to achieve net-zero CO² emissions for the whole product lifecycle by 2050. By 2030, we aim to reduce our direct and indirect emissions by 42% and our supply chain-related emissions by 25%. If you’re looking for a supplier that takes sustainability seriously, look no further.

  • Sustainable by design

    Sustainable by design

Sustainability doesn’t happen by accident. We invest approximately 8% of our annual global revenue into R&D, and one of our goals is to make our products more sustainable. That means environmentally friendly innovations like designing lighter and smaller units that require less fuel to transport.

  • Eco friendly materials

    Eco-friendly materials

We use recycled plastics in our products to help reduce our environmental impact. We’ve also made significant changes to our packaging, using more cardboard and less plastic. Our efforts on this front help you reduce your supply chain-related emissions.

  • Energy effeciency

    Energy efficiency

We're constantly looking for ways to reduce energy consumption. Some of these include built-in features such as Auto Shutdown, Eco Recovery and Motor Control. Our DX C3900 and 4900 series devices feature low melting point toner, which uses a lower temperature to melt the toner onto the paper when printing. These all help reduce your carbon footprint - and your power bill.

Contributing to a circular economy

Canon products are manufactured with the understanding that these devices will be recycled at their end of life. The process begins as these devices are collected from our clients; they are then assessed for further functionality, dismantled, and repurposed with less than 1% reaching landfill.
