Canon & Whānau Āwhina Plunket Golf Day 2024

4th March 2024

We take immense pride in supporting our broader community through championing not-for-profit organisations such as Whānau Āwhina Plunket.

Whānau Āwhina Plunket is deeply embedded in the heart of New Zealand communities. With a rich origin story dating back to 1914, the charitable organisation provides free health services to around 80% of all newborn babies. They are committed to giving every child the best possible start to life, and this commitment creates a lasting impact on families and infants throughout Aotearoa.

In line with our guiding philosophy of Kyosei – living and working together for the common good, we’re passionate about supporting our customers and their mahi to do good. One of the ways we brought this to life was through our Canon & Whānau Āwhina Plunket Golf Day.

The purpose of the event was to raise funds and awareness, with proceeds going towards the charity.

Bathed in sunshine, over 40 golfers enjoyed an action-packed day at Pupuke Golf Club in Auckland. Teams worked their way through the course in an Ambrose format, and enjoyed a range of fun activations. Some notable activities included a bacon BAPs food stop, the ‘Canon Chill Zone’ offering refreshments, real fruit ice cream, lucky tee-off wheel spin, the long drive challenge from pro golfer Chris Charlton, closest ball to the pin challenge, mini hotdogs, and a speed massage.

Advantages were purchased through donations that brought teams closer to the tournament trophy, with all proceeds supporting Whānau Āwhina Plunket’s mission. First place at the tournament was won by LifeDirect, a Wellington-based team of financial advisors paving the way to make insurance more straightforward and accessible. Our Canon Consumer team held second place in the tournament, with third place by our Canon Business team (go Canon!).

In the evening, attendees enjoyed a prizegiving dinner and auction event. Before the dinner, Canon offered some opportunities to bid for amazing prizes. Some of those prizes included a a year’s worth of Tim Tams, a 2021 signed All Blacks jersey, an electric scooter and a much-anticipated VIP experience to the 2025 NZ Open golf tournament; flights and accommodation included for two people.

Through this event, Canon & Whānau Āwhina Plunket raised over $16,000.00

We are thrilled with the outcome of the event and the meaningful progress it brings to our partnership with Whānau Āwhina Plunket, and the difference they make in our community.

“We value partnering with organisations like Canon, who share the same values as we do and demonstrate those shared values through the tangible, incredible actions of fundraising events like their Golf Day. Tamariki are at the heart of everything we do at Whānau Āwhina Plunket, but we couldn’t deliver our wraparound services for families without amazing support like this!” – Kelly Douglas, Head of Fundraising.
