Canon Australia is posting the following information in line with a global announcement regarding EOS-1D X digital SLR cameras pre-installed with firmware Version 1.1.1. Canon Australia has confirmed by individual serial number that 15 units of affected stock are in the Australian market.

Canon Australia is posting the following information in line with a global announcement regarding EOS-1D X digital SLR cameras pre-installed with firmware Version 1.1.1. Canon Australia has confirmed by individual serial number that 15 units of affected stock are in the Australian market.

Canon Australia has no means of identifying what products have entered the Australian market from overseas via other channels (direct import from overseas or via local reseller of overseas products). However, we provide the following information to assist end users of such products to identify whether their product is affected and support available.

Canon apologises for any inconvenience caused by this issue. Canon takes quality issues seriously and has taken steps to avoid this issue recurring.

Phenomenon

Some cameras with firmware Version 1.1.1 Pre-installed by Canon do not perform auto-focusing at f/8 aperture. When functioning correctly, Firmware Version 1.1.1 enables the center AF point to autofocus when the camera is used with lens/extender combinations with a combined maximum aperture of f/8.

Affected Product

Please use the following criteria to confirm whether your camera requires the firmware to be overwritten:

1) Identifier 1

The sixth digit from the left in the serial number on the camera body is 4 or 5. If the sixth digit from the left is 1, 2, 3, or 6 and later the unit is not affected. If the sixth digit is a 4 or 5, please continue to Identifier 2 below to ensure that it is not ruled out by other means.

2) Identifier 2

Even if the sixth digit from the left in the serial number on the camera body is 4 or 5, the camera may not be affected if it matches the following criteria:

(a) There is a white dot in the battery compartment

Support

If your camera is affected, please overwrite the firmware by one of the following methods:

1. Overwriting the firmware yourself (the overwriting process takes no more than 5 minutes):

2. Overwriting the firmware by Canon Service Centre:

(a) Purchasers of cameras from Authorised Canon Australia Dealers: Please contact the Canon Services & Support to arrange for Canon to perform the overwriting for you.

(b) Purchasers of affected overseas product should first contact their point of purchase to access the service provisions of their relevant distributor.
