Three ways to increase printing efficiency with mobility

3rd February 2016

As smart applications and mobile web browsing go mainstream, more people are using their smart devices to capture information, process documents and control other devices.

Wireless mobile printing has joined the movement, with the latest mobile print and scan applications enabling users to streamline their document workflow, improve productivity and boost efficiency.

Here are three ways in which mobility is shaking up the world of print.

Mobile print control

To save time, the multitasking professional will often reach for their mobile device to view business documents, webpages or images. However, if they want to run off a hard copy, they’ll often have no choice but to revert to a desktop application.

Mobile printing apps take the pain out of on-demand printing by allowing users to print directly from their smart devices via a tap-and-swipe interface.

Some apps are also capable of ‘keystone correction’ – allowing the user to adjust the size and orientation of an image in order to produce a more professional-looking printed product.

If your printer packs a near-field communication (NFC) chip, NFC-enabled smart devices can also print documents by simply being tapped against the printer.

Mobile scanning

The days of the smartphone or tablet camera providing little more than a grainy, pixelated slideshow are long gone.

With the latest models sporting resolutions of eight megapixels or more, they are increasingly being used in the business world for document capture and scanning when a photocopier isn’t available.

A mobile scanning app allows users to scan important files into their mobile devices before they travel or attend an off-site meeting. It can also add document file management to devices that lack a local file system, as well as allow the user to save the image in a range of industry-standard formats, such as PDF or TIFF.

Cloud integration

For businesses of all sizes, public cloud storage platforms such as Dropbox and Google Drive have become the simplest and most hassle-free way to share files across multiple devices and desktop PCs.

Some mobile print apps have cloud integration built in so the user doesn’t have to deal with the hassle of transferring documents from their cloud client to the print application.

Cloud integration clears away the last productivity hurdle of mobility-based printing and gives the user the ability to take complete control of their printing needs, regardless of how, or where, they prefer to work.
