Professional Digital Display Firmware Update

14th April 2016
Canon today announced the Company will make available free firmware upgrades for its two professional 4K displays—the DP-V3010 30-inch model and the DP-V2410 24-inch model—that add new features including a display function for Canon’s proprietary Canon Log 3 gamma and connectivity with ARRI camera systems. The upgrades will be available in July 2016.

Compatibility with Canon’s proprietary Canon Log 3 gamma
The new upgrades provide support for Canon’s proprietary post-production-friendly wide-dynamic-range Canon Log 3 gamma. Facilitating image confirmation in a range of shooting and editing situations, the upgrades enable the displays to convert to gradation characteristics appropriate for Canon Log 3 video captured with the EOS C300 Mark II3.

Realises connectivity with ARRI camera systems (DP-V2410 only)
The firmware update supports connectivity with ARRI camera systems, incorporating a function enabling the display of metadata acquired from ARRI cameras. Additionally, a quality sync function automatically changes the display’s picture quality based on camera settings for improved on-location convenience.

Shooting-assist functions to satisfy diverse shooting-location needs
For the DP-V2410, the firmware upgrade provides optimised waveform monitor display settings for Canon Log, SMPTE ST 20844 and other signal inputs; includes a 2-Sample Interleave Division for the split transmission of 4K and UHD video signals; and makes possible the two-screen and four-screen display of 2K and HD video. The firmware upgrade also delivers improved shooting-assist functionality through an enhanced zoom function that allows users to select what portion of the image they would like to magnify and offers 4x and 8x zooming.

For both the DP-V3010 and DP-V2410, the upgrades include a viewing mode that suppresses the black level when boosting the white level to realise improved contrast for enhanced image clarity.

1. Firmware is a type of software used to control product hardware functions.
2. Canon Log 3, Canon’s proprietary log gamma, achieves color characteristics approaching those of the HDTV ITU-R BT.709 color gamut and realizes a 1600% wide dynamic range while retaining all the advantages of the user-friendly Canon Log.
3. Requires firmware upgrade announced on April 14, 2016.
4. A high dynamic range standard advocated by the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers.
