Content Id: 8200686600

Issue

Cause and solution

Check 1: Is the power turned on?

You cannot receive faxes if the power is turned off. Press the ON button to turn the power on.
If you disconnected the power cord without turning off the power (one of the buttons on the Operation Panel is lit), reconnecting it turns on the power automatically.
If you disconnected the power cord after pressing the ON button to turn off the power (no buttons on the Operation Panel are lit), reconnect it, then press the ON button to turn on the power.
If the power was turned off due to power failure, etc., the power is automatically turned on when the power failure is resolved.

B: In Use/Memory lamp

Cause and solution

Check 2: Is the machine's memory full?

Either print or delete documents in the machine's memory to free it up, then ask the sender to resend the fax.

In the following cases, the machine is not able to print the received fax and will automatically store the fax in its memory.

Ink has run out.
Paper has run out.
A different size of paper from that specified by Page size is loaded.
Page size is set to other than A4, 8.5"x11"(LTR), or 8.5"x14"(Legal) (MX350 series).
OFF is selected for Auto print in FAX user settings.
You pressed the Stop button to cancel printing of a received fax.

Caution

If you disconnect the power cord, all the documents stored in memory are deleted. Send or print necessary documents before disconnecting the power cord.

Caution

When confirming, printing, or deleting a document stored in memory, you specify it by its transaction number. If you do not know the transaction number for your target document, print the list of documents first.

Printing a Document in Memory

If the machine was not able to send a fax or print a received fax, it stores the unsent or unprinted fax in its memory. If an error occurred during a fax transmission, the document is not stored in memory. You can print a list of stored documents (the memory list) or print a specified document.

Caution

The memory list shows the transaction number of the unsent or unprinted fax (TX/RX NO.), transaction mode, recipient's number, and the date and time of the transaction.

You will not be able to send or receive faxes, make copies, or scan originals.
When you are connecting the telephone, whether or not you can use it depends upon your telephone line or telephone.

Connecting Various Lines

These are examples and could not be guaranteed to suit every connecting condition. For details, refer to the instruction manual supplied with the network device (control devices such as an xDSL (Digital Subscriber Line) modem or terminal adapter) you are connecting to this machine.

Caution

Do not connect fax machines and/or telephones in parallel (US and Canada only)

If two or more fax machines and/or telephones are connected in parallel, the following problems may occur and the machine may not operate properly.

- If you pick up the handset of the telephone that is connected in parallel during fax transmission or reception, the fax image may be corrupted or a communication error may occur.

- Such services as Caller ID, etc. may not operate properly on the telephone.

If you cannot avoid parallel connections, set the receive mode to TEL priority mode, understanding that the above problems may occur. You will only be able to receive faxes manually.

Caution

xDSL is the generic term for the high speed digital communication technology with telephone line such as ADSL/HDSL/SDSL/VDSL.

Connecting the telephone

Before connecting a telephone or answering machine, remove the Telephone connector cap.

For users in the UK

If the connector of the external device cannot be connected to the jack on the machine, you will need to purchase a B.T. adapter to connect as follows: Attach the B.T. adapter to the modular cable connecting the external device, then connect the B.T. adapter to the (External device) jack.

Cause and solution

Check 5: Is a different size of paper from that specified by Page size loaded?

If a different size of paper from that specified by Page size is loaded for printing faxes, incoming faxes will not be printed completely and will be stored in memory. Load the same size of paper as that specified by Page size, then press the OK button on the machine.

Cause and solution

Check 6: Is Page size set to other than A4, 8.5"x11"(LTR), or 8.5"x14"(Legal)?

If Page size is set to other than A4, 8.5"x11"(LTR), or 8.5"x14"(Legal), the received fax will not be printed and will be stored in memory (Memory Reception). Set Page size to A4, 8.5"x11"(LTR), or 8.5"x14"(Legal).

Cause and solution

Check 7: Is paper loaded?

If paper is not loaded, received faxes will be stored in memory without being printed. Load paper, then press the OK button.

Loading Plain Paper / Photo Paper

Caution

If you cut plain paper into small size such as 4" x 6" / 10 x 15 cm, 4" x 8" / 101.6 x 203.2 mm, 5" x 7" / 13 x 18 cm, or 2.16" x 3.58" / 55.0 x 91.0 mm (Card size) to perform trial print, it can cause paper jams.

Caution

We recommend Canon genuine photo paper for printing photos. For details on the Canon genuine paper, see [ Media Types You Can Use ]
You can use general copy paper. For the page size and paper weight you can use for this machine, see [ Media Types You Can Use ]

1. Prepare paper.

Align the edges of paper. If paper is curled, flatten it.

Caution

Align the edges of paper neatly before loading. Loading paper without aligning the edges may cause paper jams.
If paper is curled, hold the curled corners and gently bend them in the opposite direction until the paper becomes completely flat. For details on how to flatten curled paper, refer to [ Paper Is Smudged/Printed Surface Is Scratched ]

2. Load paper.

(1) Open the Paper Support, and open the support as an extension.

(2) Open the Paper Output Tray gently.

(3) Slide the Paper Guides (A) to open them, and load the paper in the center of the Rear Tray WITH THE PRINT SIDE FACING YOU.

Do not slide the Paper Guides too hard. The paper may not be fed properly.

Caution

Always load paper in the portrait orientation (B). Loading paper in the landscape orientation (C) can cause paper jams.

Caution

Do not load sheets of paper higher than the Load Limit Mark (D).

Caution

The machine may make operating noise when feeding paper.

- After loading paper

When using the machine to copy or print without a computer, select the size and type of the loaded paper for Page size and Type on the print settings screen.
When printing with a computer, select the size and type of the loaded paper in Printer Paper Size and Media Type in the printer driver.

See [ Printing Documents ]

Loading Documents in the ADF

You can load documents to copy, fax, or scan in the ADF.

(3) Adjust the Document Guides to match the width of the document.

Do not slide the Document Guides too hard. The document may not be fed properly.

Loading Paper

Cause and solution

Check 8: Has the ink run out?

If the ink has run out, received faxes will be stored in memory without being printed. Check the ink level and take the appropriate action, then print the faxes in memory.

-⋗ [ Document Stored in Memory ]

Caution

If the machine was receiving faxes in the fax mode, printing will start automatically after checking the ink level and taking appropriate action.

-⋗ [ Replacing FINE Cartridges ]

You can set the machine to forcibly print a received fax even if the ink has run out. However, part or all of the fax may not be printed since ink has run out. Also, the contents of the fax will not be stored in memory. If the ink has already run out, we recommend that OFF be selected for Auto print in FAX user settings to store the received fax in memory. When you print the fax stored in memory manually, check the ink level and take the appropriate action. After that, select ON for Auto print, and the fax stored in memory will be printed automatically.

Cause and solution

Check 9: Is the machine set to the appropriate receive mode?

Check the receive mode setting and change it to a mode suited to your connection if necessary.

Receiving a Fax Temporarily in the Memory of the Machine (Memory Receiving)

If the machine was not able to print a received fax, the machine stores the unprinted fax temporarily in its memory (memory receiving). An unsent fax is also stored in the memory. If an error occurred when sending a fax, it is not stored.

When a fax is stored in the memory, the In Use/Memory lamp lights and the message "Received in memory." appears on the LCD.

Caution

If you disconnect the power plug, all the documents stored in memory are deleted. Send or print necessary documents, or save them on the memory card or USB flash drive before disconnecting the power plug.
