Canon's new IXUS cameras are slim in size but packed with high-performance features
Auckland, 9 February 2010
Capture life’s spontaneous moments in style with the new Canon IXUS 210 IS, 130 IS and 105 IS.
Canon New Zealand continues to excel in the style stakes, introducing three new slim and sophisticated compact digital cameras to add to its popular IXUS range. The new IXUS 210 IS, IXUS 130 IS and IXUS 105 IS make it fun and easy for social photographers to capture highquality images and video footage of life on the go, thanks to a range of high-performance features. Each model houses a wide angle lens with a large Optical Zoom helping users capture every detail. Also included is Canon’s proprietary TruCapture technology which gives true-to-life stills by optimising settings to suit shooting conditions.
“The new additions to the IXUS range signify the culmination of an impressive ten years of sophisticated style and design,” said Rochelle Mora, Brand Manager – Imaging, Canon New Zealand. “Not only do the three cameras boast stunning designs but they are also feature-packed to help users get the perfect shot every time.”
High-quality shots made simple
All three models feature Canon’s TruCapture technology, making it easy for users to get the shot they want. This is achieved by combining three Canon technologies: Optical Image Stabilizer for clear, sharp shots; a DiG!C Colour Processor for true-to-life colours; and Intelligent Auto that makes taking photos easy. From bright backlit scenes of moving people, to landscapes with blue skies, macros and sunsets, Intelligent Auto recognises up to 22 different scenes (18 for the 105 IS). The technology then carries out the optimum image processing for that scene, ensuring that users can easily capture true-to-life shots every time.
These models are the first in the IXUS range to feature Canon’s new Intelligent Flash Exposure technology which automatically detects whether flash is required and adjusts the flash output, shutter speed, aperture and ISO speed to best suit the photo being taken. Intelligent Flash Exposure technology reduces problems such as shadow on faces, flash not reaching the subject or highlight blow-outs.
Ensuring high-quality shots can be achieved in any situation, these new IXUS cameras feature a Low Light scene mode, perfect when taking shots of your friends at a party. Depending on the scene, the camera automatically controls the ISO sensitivity (from ISO400 to ISO6400) so that shooting low-light scenes is effortless.
IXUS 130 IS – An array of features packed into a tiny body
Slipping easily into your pocket with a width of just 17.8mm, the IXUS 130 IS is the slimmest IXUS to house a wide angle lens - sure to be one of the most popular with style conscious consumers. Users can capture great group shots and beautiful landscapes in impressively high image quality thanks to the 28mm wide angle lens and 4x Optical Zoom. The addition of HD movie recording makes bringing memories to life for friends even easier.
A Smart Shutter feature has been incorporated into the IXUS 130 IS. This mode is ideal for times when the photographer wishes to be included in the shot, but there is no-one around to help take the photo:
- Smile Smart Shutter automatically shoots when it recognises that the subject is smiling;
- Wink Self Timer activates the camera self timer by recognising a wink from the subject;
- Face Self Timer detects when the photographer has joined the frame and two seconds later, the camera will shoot.
Promising loads of fun, the IXUS 130 IS includes two new creativescene modes - ‘miniature effect’ which imitates the visual qualities of a ‘Tilt Shift’ lens, applying blur to background and foreground areas to render your subjects in miniature and ‘fish-eye effect’ which mimics the optical characteristics of a fish eye lens to add creative distortion to landscapes, buildings, even close up shots of your pets and friends.
Images and movies can be shared on a new Pure Color LCD II G screen. A Canon-first, this screen is made from reinforced glass and incorporates a polarising plate to reduce screen reflection.
Available in black and silver, users will want to keep this slim and stylish camera on them at all times.
Canon has also designed a slimline waterproof case to be used with the IXUS 130 IS. 40 per cent smaller than its predecessors, the WPDC37 case is lightweight and easy to use. The IXUS 130 IS automatically detects when it has been placed in the waterproof casing and makes the suitable scene modes available. Waterproof at depths up to 40 metres, the WP-DC37 is the perfect accessory for diving, snorkelling, and skiing adventures.
IXUS 210 IS – Stunning images at the touch of a finger
The IXUS 210 IS promises fun and easy shooting with a huge 3.5-inch interactive touch LCD screen. With simply a touch of the screen, users can browse menu options, review photos and select the subject they want to focus on with Touch Auto Focus. Operability has been simplified further by enabling users to personalise their screen, moving buttons around to suit their preferences.
Sharing images and reliving experiences with friends is even more enjoyable. Record video footage in High Definition (1280 x 720) and view either on screen or in full detail when transferred by HDMI mini connector to a wide screen TV.
Featuring a 5x Optical Zoom, the longest zoom available in the IXUS range, and a 24mm wide angle lens, the IXUS 210 IS gives users the flexibility to capture wide-spanning scenes and close up detail.
Like the IXUS 130 IS, the IXUS 210 IS also features Smart Shutter and the new creative modes of ‘miniature’ and ‘fish-eye’.
