Canon's proud night at the NZIPP Iris Awards

J.Ranken - 1

Canon EOS Master Jackie Ranken scooped four awards at the 2011 NZIPP Iris Awards, including the Canon sponsored Landscape Photographer of the Year.

Ranken’s other awards came in the Photojournalism, Highest Scoring Monochrome image and Illustrative categories.

Rochelle Mora, Brand Manager – Imaging at Canon New Zealand says witnessing the success of such great photographers as Jackie is one of the reasons Canon sponsors the awards.

“The NZIPP Iris Awards are very highly regarded by the industry,” says Mora. “The Landscape photography award demonstrates powerful imagery and to see one of our own EOS Masters win this award capped off a great night.”

Jackie Ranken says having her work acknowledged by the NZIPP has been a great honour.
“This is one of the premier events in New Zealand's photography industry and I am proud to be a part of it. It’s not so much a competition but a celebration of photography where we all put our best images from the year forward and ask our peer group to judge them.  I feel very privileged to have been awarded like this,” says Ranken. “A big thank you must go to Canon for their ongoing support of my work.”

Jackie is a Master of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, twice winner of the Australian Institute Landscape Photographer of the year, winner of a World Press Award, a Master & Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography and has 30 years experience as a professional photographer.

“Each year I am amazed at the creativity and professionalism of the award entrants,” said NZIPP President Craig Robertson. “These photographers continue to push their own creative boundaries and this filters down to their day to day work putting them at the leading edge of the profession. The entries we’ve seen this year nudge us into the realm of fine art as we see image making and communication through the medium of photography.”
