Canon Australia supports excellence in marketing
Canon Australia and The University of Sydney have this week named Samantha Yates as the Canon Honours Scholarship winner for 2009. Samantha was selected by the Faculty of Economics and Business for achieving the highest average marks in the Marketing major units of study as part of the Marketing Honours program.
The Canon Honours Scholarship fund was established in 2003, and consists of a donation of $100,000 from Canon Australia to the University of Sydney to create a continuing annual scholarship of $6,000. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student accepted into the Marketing Honours program who demonstrates the greatest proficiency in their Marketing major units of study. The total of $6,000 is paid to the student in two equal instalments at the beginning of each semester.
"The Canon Honours Scholarship is an important annual award to Canon Australia as it allows us to foster the incredible talent that our marketing students possess. Creative and innovative marketing is an integral part of our business success and a specialisation that we want to encourage," says Mr Kenji Kobayashi, Managing Director, Canon Australia.
"We selected the University of Sydney based on its reputation for academic excellence and its results-focused approach to modern learning, particularly in business-related studies. We are thrilled to have provided Samantha with this award and congratulate her on her success," added Mr Kobayashi.
"The Faculty commends Samantha on earning the 2008 Canon Honours Scholarship," said Professor Wolnizer, Dean of the Faulty of Economics and Business. "Canon's continued support of our honours program highlights the faculty's commitment to greater collaboration with the business community and the importance we place on industry based learning. Our Faculty is built on a foundation of excellence in teaching, learning and research and we're proud that Canon has chosen to partner with us in this process."
"I feel honoured to have won this scholarship," said Samantha Yates. "Receiving the Canon Scholarship for Marketing Honours will allow me to continue for another year at the University of Sydney to further develop my potential in the arenas of research and academia."
"As well as discovering that I had received the Canon Honours Scholarship, I was also inspired by the core values held by Canon in the areas of sustainability and the environment. As these corporate social responsibility issues were closely linked to my thesis topic, I was encouraged by Canon's corporate citizenship in practically employing these ethical and socially responsible actions in the real world," added Yates.
The University of Sydney is the university of choice for over 46,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from around the world.
